I Got A Six Shooter & A Horse Named Trigger

All of my life I’ve had a fascination with guns. I used to follow my uncles to the range and sit there with sheer fascination. Every time a gun would go off, it would send goosebumps through my body. Back then, I knew when I got older I wanted a job where I’d be able to use weapons, responsibly. I think I was the only little girl who had dreams of being a detective or sharp shooter. Go figure. Instead of Barbie dolls, I had G.I. Joe toys and toy guns. I never bothered to play with my younger sisters, but my younger brother and I got along because we were always playing cops & robbers or some sort of make believe army game.

Fast forward 20-something years later.

No, I’m not in Law Enforcement or the military, but I still have a secret love of weapons. Only a few people in my family know about it, I hardly ever mention it to friends. One of my best friends in the area is on the SWAT Team for the Secret Service and when he found out about my shooting skills a few years ago, he couldn’t believe it. I happened to tag along with him to target practice one day, and asked if I could give it a ‘try’, unbeknownst to him I wasn’t an amateur.

From that day on, I’ve had a new range partner. On my 30th birthday he gave me and nice shiney new toy (pictured above). Needless to say, minus the day I gave birth to my son, that was one of the most happiest days of my life.
There is always going to be the argument over the right to bear arms. What people fail to realize is that a gun is an inanimate object. It’s the person behind the gun that pulls the trigger to kill someone. If the gun is just laying there, chances are it’s not going to cause any one harm.
For the record, I am not a member of the NRA. Just a responsible and licensed gun owner. Most people who are licensed gun owners don’t even own one out of the sheer aspect of possibly shooting a would be intruder, but for the sport of it. Chances are, if I owned a motorcycle, the chances of me killing myself or someone else with it is greater.
Of course there are criminals out there with access to fire arms. But, there are also the criminals masquerading around in police uniforms who have access to them as well. I’m not sure which is the lesser evil. But if there’s a chance that I can protect myself from either of them, I’m willing to take it.

    Blaming deaths on guns is as stupid as me blaming the people who make forks for being fat.


    I don't care what they do because there will always be illegal guns. Unfortunately, whenever anything is gov't regulated there will always be an market that that caters to criminal minds.



    Actually, stiffer regulation has not reduced gun violence. Go figure!

    I'm not so concerned about what you or other highly trained, rational, and responsible people will do with a gun. And I'm not even so concerned about what "criminals" might do with a gun (they're doing that stuff already). I'm concerned about crazy police officers, but they've already got guns, too, so that's not really an issue either.


    But I'm WAY concerned about the fact that we have more handguns in this country already than we have adults. I'm WAY concerned about some idiot who owns one or more guns and DOESN'T use them at the range, but gets loaded every weekend with a weapon in their trunk. And I'm WAY concerned about the folks that live in my state who still think the way to keep Black folks in their place is with a big fat gun.



    The problem, as you point out, is not the guns. It's the culture. But there are a whole lot of gun owners in this country that, while they damn sure might shoot somebody, would never stab them. That's why the gun issue is the gun issue.



    We're gearing up for another civil war. Malcolm thought it would be about money. The way things are moving, that could be true. But one thing's for sure: right or wrong, guns will be all up in the middle of it. And THAT'S why an ultra conservative Supreme Court moved on this the way they did.

    I've been toying with going to the range for about 5 years and haven't mustered the energy to do so... there is a part of me that feels if i go one time i'll be addicted and there's a part of me that feels like if i ever become a registered owner and a fool tries me "I WILL BLOW THEIR MUTHAF...ING HEAD OFF." whooo... got it out of my system!

    Lick a shot in a d air! They got rid of the DC BAN on guns...so Imma be packing me gun in my Gustto Cotella Bag, In style! I remember they first time the put a M16 in my hand (Military folks, relax), it took everything for me to give it back. That POWER! And then when they gave me the 9! At the range, legs shoulder width a part, holding that metal between my hands...Wow, I'm having a moment...I'll be back...lol.
