There’s No Place Like Home

As much as I love traveling, I love coming home and being able to sleep in my own bed and use my own shower and bathroom. I don’t care how much of a 5-star hotel a place is, for some reason, I can never get a good night’s sleep in one. While I was in Orlando for the past couple of days, I was able to mix & mingle with some of the biggest Advertising & Marketing executives there are in the business. Forbes, NFL, Zappos, CNN, Facebook and countless other companies were in attendance. I can’t even count how many hands I shook or how many bottles of purell I went through (obviously not enough b/c I feel a cold coming on).

I’m grateful that my job allows me to travel, mainly because it allows me the opportunity to get a break from other things in my life. After the networking functions I attended this week, I spent the majority of my time relaxing at the pool, or sitting in my room in total peace and quiet. I got a chance to spend time with my cousin, who up until this past July, I hadn’t seen in about 10+ years. She broke out the photo album and we bothed laughed at how very 80’s and 90’s we looked back then. She was the quintessential MC Lyte wannabe, and I was this skater girl, with little shorts on  & socks up to my knees and a skateboard by my side.

In any event, this next week will be a detox week for me. Detoxing from alcohol and certain meats I swore off, where now I have to start from scratch because I had a meat relapse. I swear, everytime I travel for work or pleasure, I come back 5 lbs heavier! I guess room service and dinner/lunch receptions for 4 days in a row will do that to a person!

So, that was my weekend, how was yours?

  • It was cold and raining here most of the weekend. I stayed indoors. I did have some buddies come over. We played cards, had some drinks, smoked some cigars, and listened to the Rat Pack. We had a great time.

    Guess who!

lmao!! I guess I'm not the only one who's still apprehensive about being in hotels.

My weekend was fabulous. I was an honoree at a recognition dinner for work and we spent the weekend at this 5star resort and spa in Raleigh. I LOVED it! It was a great getaway from life's bullshit!

I've already reserved a few days there while I'm on vacation in December! Can't wait!!!

My weekend was great, I went back home last weekend for 10 straight days! This weekend was great I spent Friday locking up my next big move (MORE ON THAT LATER) and on Saturday TOM A and I headed to see his family (most importantly his 11 year old daughter) and was nice (especially the fact that I LOVE HIS family and they love me to!) I’m headed back to New England Sunday evening.

What is really funny to me is that I have that SAME picture up on my G-Talk with no place like home as my message since my homesickness really got the best of me about 6 weeks ago.

  • Sounds like you had a great time. My weekend was ok. I was supposed to go to Atlanta but that didn't happen. I did go to my hometown to visit my family for a few hours before coming back to Columbia.
  • Thanks for the comment & welcome :)

Is that Columbia, SC or Columbia, MD?

Not as good as yours... it was chilly in NYC so I would have loved to been in Orlando... I am so not looking forward to winter... I got a feeling we are going to get one filled with snow since its been a while since we really got any.
  • Girl, when I stepped off the plane in a little tshirt and flip flops, I was not expecting the cold weather at all! I had to buy a scarf from one of the stores in the airport!

Ha!! I packed a jacket and decided to open my suitcase up and put on my gym shoes and pack my flip flops since I was taking mass transit home. Its funny I wasn't the only one who open luggage to get warmer items. *lol*

Its like 52 here, I left such a beautiful (still slightly devastated) Houston on Sunday, low humidity low 80's perfect weather. Man I gotta get home before this winter really starts up.
