Newsflash: Oprah’s Fat!

Is there truly nothing else for CNN, Good Morning America & The Today Show to report on besides Oprah’s weight gain? I mean seriously, it’s not the end of the world for someone to weigh 200 lbs. Yes, at Oprah’s height, it may not be optimal, but I’m sure there are a lot of men and women in the world who’d give their right arm to ONLY weigh that amount.
I completely understand the health risks that can arise when people are overweight. Heart disease & diabetes are amongst the leading deaths due to being overweight. But am I supposed to feel sorry for Oprah and her weight?
Sorry, I don’t.
I do feel sorry for Jackie, in Ohio, who weighs 300 lbs and can’t afford to have Dr. Oz, a personal trainer and chef by her side. Let’s not even mention the millions of dollars, I’m certain Jackie doesn’t have in her bank account. I also feel sorry for those women who aren’t overweight, but when they look in the mirror, and because of our society’s image of what ‘beautiful’ is, they’re starving themselves literally to death. Has anyone seen a picture of Donatella Versace’s daughter, Allegra, recently? She’s definitely not the picture of great health, and she’s not fat.

Till this day, my size fluctuates between a size 10 & a 14. I think just by looking at a donut too hard I gain a few pounds. But I know that if I don’t eat the donut, I won’t have that problem. I’ve come to realization that I’ll never be smaller than a 10, and honestly, I don’t even think I’ll look right. At 5′10, I’ll be damned if I become a victim of “The Charms Blow Pop Body Syndrome”. Big head. Little body. Not a good look.
Enough about me, back to Oprah.
How many times have we seen the skinny Oprah? How many times have we seen the ‘fat’ Oprah? Every couple of years she’s flip flopping back and forth and we’re innudated with news reports about Oprah’s weight. I remember her first skinny episode, when I was a kid, and she came out in the tight jeans & black sweater.

What vividly still stands out in my mind, is how large her head looked. Not cute. At all. I think that drastic weight loss is what initially set her up for weight loss & gain failure. I can’t even start to imagine the pressure she put on herself to loose that initial weight, but then to only gain it back. Over & over & over & over again. Maybe if she started out trying to be “medium” Oprah and not “skinny” Oprah, she wouldn’t be in the predicament she’s in now.
So now millions of viewers will tune in to Oprah, to watch her weight loss progress again. As she’s having her meals cooked by professional chefs, having her personal trainer stand by her side and guide her through her work outs, and as Dr. Oz is trying to teach her to ‘love’ the skin she’s in. But meanwhile, in Ohio, Jackie is sitting down, watching Oprah, with another box of donuts by her side, wishing she could just afford her Bally’s membership that is raping her blind.
Go Oprah!
I may have to give this workout a try:
