Before chemo, I couldn't stand my hair - now I wish I had it back. Right before it fell out, I was trying to outgrow the relaxer and go the natural route. I didn't want to do the big chop but as we know, the joke was on me. Now, my hair is growing back but it's coming in gray.

I understand always wanting a new look - that's why I traumatized my hair trying to always whip it into (what I thought) perfect shape.

All I can say is: be thankful you have hair! If you feel naked with it twisted then let it flow! Do what YOU feel comfortable with.

P.S. Personally, I like the wild and curly look with highlights.

P.S.S. I found out there is a "green" salon here in NH. Maybe try a similiar place if you want to be kinder to your hair.

All it takes for me is one drop of sweat & any work I’ve done on it to blow dry it or flat iron it, is just a waste! So usually I wear my hair straight more so in the winter or spring when there’s no humidity.

Yup it’s the same one…or any generic version…I put it on my scalp about 3xs a week…it’s that simple.

Yes, I’ve seen your short blond natural! It looks cute on you! The money I used to spend on products was ridiculous! Esp. Miss Jessies, and only to get mediocre results. Kinky-curly made my hair feel so crunchy, didn’t like it..and Carols Daughter…well that’s a whole ‘nother story! Ugh!

Being as though I’m wearing a hat today, I can say that I feel your pain when it comes to the indecisiveness about hairstyles! I have an appt on Friday; I will be cutting it – AGAIN – because I definitely want to start with small twists. I can’t wait!!! Only a few more trips left!

I’m confused about the Monistat…is this the same Monistat used for other female issues? If so, how exactly is it used on the hair. I’m up for trying just about anything if it will help my hair grow.

I too am at a crossroads as it relates to my hair. I dont know if you’ve seen my pics but I rock a short short short blonde natural. I see so many other fat chicks with my ‘do now that I seriously “dont” anymore. I want locs too but I keep my hair cut close enough to form cute lil curls close to my head and the in between phase is agonizing. When my hair grows out the least little bit I feel like my head looks wild and unkept. So everytime I get close to letting it grow out enough to start off some locs I cut it all off again. I thought about getting it braided or wearing wigs (uuugh!) but then again maybe I will just try to grow several inches of hair because I’ve decided that I dont even like the “initial” phase of locks where they look like little twigs sprouting out from your head…

Tell me this…is it me or do you find that you buy more products with natural hair than you did with relaxed hair? I spend so much more money now its ridiculous. A few of the websites that have some of my pocket change are Kinky-curly.com, MissJessies.com, Carolsdaughter.com, Kimble products (now sold at Target), myriad others. Its crazy the money I spend on my nappy headed self…and now I cant wait to try this Monistat…lol.

I go through trials and tribulations myself , my biggest issue is not wanting to over fry it with chemicals but the texture of my hair is so unbalanced I need to have a lil something to get it all on the same wavelength, I do have that wet it and roll type hair, with just a lil oil and it looks fine, but that type of hairstyle doesn’t go with all events and sometimes seems kiddy.
Even when it is straight it only takes a drop of sweat or 1 drop of rain before it looks retarded. I hate putting gel or hair spray in my hair I hate sticky hair it grosses me out.
Any way that’s my blahblah, I fight daily wit with, oh the drama. Oh and the other thing is, Hubbs plays in my hair, head massages are some awesome things so wrapping it up at night is a lost cause, he will unwrap it unless I forbid him, but then I miss out on the feel goodness of having my hair played in, so I give in and let em, it puts me to sleep, lolol.

I feel your pain, I have been natural amost 10 years and loced almost 5. Yet in the past 6 mos I keep having the urge to just cut it all off. For years I wanted long hair, now its long and honestly at times its a PITA. Just washing my hair is a production these days. I look back fondly on the days I had a low natural, could just wash and go. LOL

I also want to color my hair but really like the gray streak in the front so I am in a hair funk. Hope you can come up with something you like.

Yea I’m rockin wigs now, I try to keep 3 on rotation (1 for work, 1 for shopping or day activities and 1 for clubbin) and I love it! I can have really short hair or a modest mid length look… I just stay away from the flat iron until I trim my ends because when I flat iron my ends look crazy. So when I get out of my wig phase I will be looking into trimming the bush a bit.

YES!!! LOL I would peruse the forums looking for product suggestions and end up getting lost in long threads and googling other products I don’t even need. Then I find myself in somebody’s FOTKI or on some YouTube Tutorial *sigh* thats all day. But I have never tried a growth aid like monistat or MegaTek and people RAVE about them… I may give one or two concotions a try!

That’s what mine are like, instead of the half pieces they’re more like wigs. The combs in half pieces hurt my scalp. And my hair is long too, I just don’t want to comb it everyday. I hate the misconception that only people with short hair wear weaves.

I had no idea about flatirons to straighten hair when I was natural! I tried with an old-fashioned straightening comb but could never get the ends straight. I might have kept it natural had I known.

I haven’t had a relaxer in about 16 yrs now! I doubt that I’ll ever go that route again, I try to do my best with a flat iron and some Chi Silk hair styling gel. My sister just had a weave done a few weeks ago, but I don’t feel comfortable doing that either. What I have in my closet are a few half pieces, for when I just want something quick. My coworkers all look at me crazy and want to know why I would wear them, when my own hair is longer, but it’s all about having those lazy day options, I suppose and a quick new style.

That’s where I am right now, no style! When I wear it curly it’s fine to ‘freestyle’, but when I get the urge to blow dry it, it’s just long for no reason, with no style. I’ve always wanted locs, and this may be the time.

I’ve tried those concoctions and amazingly the one I’ve been sticking to works (monistat). I have no time to do length checks, etc..etc.., sometimes it seems they’re obsessed with it! I am not my hair, I just get bored with it at times.

See I thought I was the only one with that problem! The hair on my right side has perfect curls, the curls on the left are a little less spiral, I have no idea what went wrong over there!

One of the products I found that didn’t give me the scrunchy feeling is the Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner/Styling Cream, it lasts long and isn’t too costly.

Talk about hair commitment issues – I was natural twice, and have been relaxed again for about 4 yrs. Every time I have more than an inch of new growth, I think about going natural again. But natural hair is not for me. I have too MUCH hair. But I still go back and forth.. I’ve been wearing quick weaves I make at home for a few months now. It seems like the approach of spring always heralds a new hair attitude.

I feel ya. I’m ready for a change to so I’ve been cutting a little each week. My hair was shoulder length, but didn’t have a real style. I’m aiming for a curly ‘do with a nice color. I don’t think I can do locs although they look good on some folks.

I completly understand ! I have zero commitment to my hair I went natural for the sole purpose of being able to have some variety. I wear so many styles. I believe hair grows back go for it! And if you don’t like it rock some weave. That’s my philosophy. And u make a great point about being natural and only using natural products, I say do what works for YOUR hair! Those hair forums can be so overwhelming with their products and concoctions, length checks and challenges… I’m not completly attached to my hair but I am attached to my mood and I adjust accordingly!
