Helen Keller Syndrome
It’s typically well known through my circle of friends that I have very few female friends. The few that I do have consist mainly of friends from elementary school, a few from college I’ve kept in contact with over the years. I would never say that I don’t get along with with women, but I will say that I have a low tolerance for some of them. I usually characterize the ones I have low tolerance for as the “Helen Keller’s” of the world, those women who walk around and are not able to see the truth that is so blatantly in front of them or even listening/hearing other people’s opinions that may be beneficial to them.
I’ve suffered from the Helen Keller syndrome several times in my life and I’m sure that I’ll go through it again, so I definitely know how it feels. In my case I always had that friend who would bring me back to reality. Sometimes those the closest to you can always offer the most candid, no holds barred advice, but some women still choose not to listen.
Some people need to take the blindfolds off & stop pretending to be blind to what’s going on around them. Take the ear plugs out, if people are giving you advice, listen to it, it may be beneficial to you. If someone is telling you your man may be cheating, don’t just assume they’re ‘hating’ on your relationship or that they want what you have, maybe he is just a dog and they’re trying to look out for your best interests. If someone tells you that your attitude sucks, well don’t assume that they’re ‘hating’ on you, maybe you do have a garbage attitude. Also, if you solicit advice, take a minute to listen what’s offered to you and absorb it, it may come in handy later.
Many of use our eyes to see, but, don’t focus long enough to see the bigger picture. Yes, we have ears to hear with, but how often do we listen? We are given the sense of sight & hearing for a reason, how about we make a good use of it?
