Who Knew Gigolos Still Existed?

This past week I was talking to my friend Vickie, the woman behind Bella76 & Confessions of a Collector, about how some men seem to have it made nowadays. Forget about having their cake & eating it too, they also have their bills paid, women willing to rent out apartments for them, women buying them cell phones and the list goes on. Once upon a time, if a woman boasted and bragged about these being done for her, she’d be labeled a gold digger and a whore. So what would you call a man who boasts and brags about it? Does the term gigolo still ring true today? And who are these women who are out there buying affection from men?
I’ve never been in the position where I needed to have a man pay my bills or co-sign for an apartment or get a cell phone in their name for me, but apparently this is what some women are doing for some men nowadays. It’s pretty sad to believe that there are actual women out there who take pleasure in doing this for men in order to keep them. Now I’m not referring to a man and a woman who are married, because that’s a whole different scenario. I’m referring to the women, who for some reason, feel that the only way to keep a man while they’re dating is to lavish them with material things even though they know that man is out there sexing up every other Tomasina, Dickquesha & Harriet.
Now I’m not going to place all the blame on the man, because there’s the old saying “never look a gift horse in the mouth”. Should a man be blamed for what a woman is offering, regardless of what his true intentions are? I guess there is a difference between coercing and forcing a woman to do things. Unfortunately there are those women out there who are easily manipulated and have minds made of play-doh.
With the above said, I will also say that I don’t see anything wrong with either a man or woman extending themselves financially to help their significant other, especially in their time of need. I remember one instance in particular, I lost my debit card and had to wait days for the bank to send me a new one. I had no cash on hand. HWSRN knew what I was going on and offered me money, which I did return back to him. I think any friend or significant other would do that. But on the other hand, I did have one person who had the audacity to ask me for an explicit amout of money because supposedly he was being evicted. All I could think of was “negro please”. Of course that person showed their true colors by not speaking to me for a while after I told them I wouldn’t be able to help them out. I guess they thought I had ‘dummy’ stamped on my forehead. I wonder if men feel less of a man, when they’re taking handouts from women? I’m sure a lot of them could careless, but I just don’t see the logic in it.
As a woman, has a man ever tried to take advantage of you financially? Men, how do you feel about men who take advantage of women financially & the women who allow it? Who’s to blame?
