The End of Another Summer

Now that my tan lines are fading, it seems apropos that this mark the official end of my Summer. I feel like a reptile shedding an old skin and uncovering a new one. I won’t even try to make it out to be symbolic of something deeper, because chances are, if I would have listened to a certain pertain person and slathered sun screen on, instead of coconut oil, this wouldn’t have happened.

My summer took me to New Orleans, Ocean City and St. Thomas. I got to see some of my favorite musical artists up close & personal. I sat in the rain and watched “Earth, Wind & Fire Perform”. I got backstage access to some of the greatest hip-hop acts ever to exist. I celebrated my birthday in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and couldn’t have asked for a better travel partner. That person taught me that celebrating should be done in “rounds” and told me I needed to make sure that when I leave St. Thomas, to continue celebrating. I think at last count, I ended up at Round 8 and I know my liver hates me.

This summer brought about new friendships and unfortunately the ending of others. But I guess the old saying ‘out with the old in with the new’, is something that always rings true. I’ve learned that bending over backwards for people will only cause a strain on my back, and nothing more. A person can only bend but so much.

I’m definitely looking forward to the fall though. I was never a 90 degree temperature type of person, even though I was born in August. I love the crisp air of a fall morning and the changing of the leaves. I love a fall wardrobe of sweaters, scarves and boots. I’m looking forward to spending my first week in November in Phoenix, Arizona ‘working’, and I’m sure by then, it will be a much needed break.

For me to complain about my summer, would definitely seem ungrateful, but I’m far from that.  If I have to ‘out with the old’  and ‘in with the new’ with other things in my life, it will only be a good thing. As the Fall season brings atmospheric changes, I’m sure it will bring life changes as well. That’s a symbolic metaphor? Isn’t it?

  • I'm glad you enjoyed your summer...but, I'm with you. I prefer Fall. It's so visually beautiful.

You're like me...I was born in January...but I HATE winter. I can't stand to be cold. Oh, I love boots, too. :)
  • Sounds like an eventful and fun summer....this summer I went to Seattle, Miami, and the Dominican Republic. I had plenty of great dinners with my friends and family, went to a good amount of weddings and/or bachelorette parties :-) I went to the beach quite often in LA...but its Cali so that not atypical. I renovated my room and worked on my dissertation........can't wait to see what I get into and where I go next summer........

My summer was full of WEDDINGS....shoot 2009 is still full of them! But I did go to a beautiful beach in Belize to take my signature "Knees on the Beach" pose! :-)

Glad to hear you had a great time- you're making me vacation green. :) Summer was quite uneventful for me, but I did gain a new sense of self; I'm getting more in tune with myself and the journey begins to a new me! Maybe by this time next year I'll be able to say I did a few things and went around a couple of new blocks!

Yup, I definitely love the fall clothes, I still love spring best just for the colors. My summer was okay, learned more about myself. I'm glad it's over though, time for a new season!
  • I went to Chicago and met a bunch of cousins for the first time. I didn't get on that overseas trip, but I did at least get my passport! WOot! Caribbean island, here I come! Maybe I'll go this winter....or maybe Australia...or maybe...more thinking to do, I guess.
  • I definitely would suggest St. Thomas! It's beautiful, but since you got the passport, might as well use it for a country where it's needed, so Australia would be my pick!
  • My summer was actually boring as hell.
  • didn't u make a baby this summer?? how boring was that? lol

This paragraph rings so true to me. The ending of certain friendships I had during the summer were completely unexpected..but the new friends I have makes turning over a new leaf well worth it. Thanks for this entry, it really hits home...
  • It's always unexpected, isn't it? I'm glad you enjoyed the post!

Sounds like you had a good summer. I enjoyed mine too. I took a cruise to Nassau.........it was rather nice and I will eventually go again..........some time.

I love the summertime and I even enjoy the heat. It was a reasonably warm summer here in South Carolina, but not too hot.

As much as I love the summer, I always look forward to the end of it; but not because of the heat......but because of college football.
  • Football? So when does the season end? LOL..I'm not a fan..lol
