I’se Negro
Black.
Afro-American.
African-American.
Negro?
I repeat.
Negro?
According to the 2010 census, you too can be transported back to the days of slavery and now feel free to refer to yourself as “negro”. I’d like to know how many black people refer to themselves as negro nowadays. Sure, I’ve used the word negro before.
For example:
“Hey can I borrow $500?”, he asked.
“Negro, please, get the fuck out of here with that bullshit”, I replied.
So yeah, I’m sure negro is being used in some sort of context nowadays, but do people classify themselves as that. It’s almost like referring to Asian people as “oriental”.
The last time I heard the word negro or a similar variation was used in Alex Haley’s movie, “Queen”. If I’m not mistaken, it was a scene when Queen decided to stop passing as white, and she told the man, ““I’se nig’ra! I’se nig’ra!”
So it’s now 2010, we have a black President, now feel free to refer to yourself as negro. Next thing you know, CNN will have a show called, “Negro In America” and Tyler Perry will give his closing remarks again.
